Ed Foley

Ed Foley has made instruments for some of the most famous names in acoustic music, including Bill Monroe, George Strait and John Pearse, who says of his Foleys: “I have no guitar that compares with my three Foley's, tone-wise or look-wise. They sound like a 1930s D-28”. Bluegrass legend Bill Monroe is also a fan of the tone and build quality of Ed’s guitars. (Look closely at the maple below and you can see how Ed curves the backs of his guitars).

We currently have an OM and a OO coming in; please Email us/phone for more details

Foley guitars have a very rare tonal quality. They sound crisp, warm, ringing and full of power. They are really exciting guitars, and give the player the feeling that they are only flexing their muscles – there’s always more in the tank. Ed uses master grade woods such as this Brazilian rosewood below to achieve the dynamic strength that his guitars snap out.

He takes his inspiration from classic Martin models such as the OO 12 fret below (you can see the red shades in the Adirondack spruce top).

Dennis owns the Foley which you can see in the Vault. He says: “I have played so many expensive and desirable guitars made by the most famous luthiers. None of them possessed the excitement of the Foley. They just weren’t in the same league. Long after the honeymoon period, I remain in awe of this guitar. It’s constantly inspiring and invites you to play it again and again.”
